IcePick, The Neural Net Bets Model
IcePick, The Neural Net Bets model, responsible for creating the daily predictions, is the result of 2 years of work. Rather than being based at the team level, it leverages the benefit of basing the input on player level statistics.
Over 100 player statistics are calculated by analyzing every play from every game. These stats are then fed into a player-level model, which will result in a score for each player on each teams roster. A higher-level model then uses these scores to predict the winning team, and their chance to win. This framework repeats itself 5 times, averaging the players stats over different timeframes in order to create the model’s input (over their career (since 2014), over the current season as well as the latest 3, 5 and 10 games played this season).
Each of these 5 model’s game predictions are then combined to create one overall prediction, which ends up leveraging the results of 200 sub-models. Once each team has played 10 games, the model will be operating in its full capacity.
FYI, there is no need to grasp what is mentioned in this section. Just gives a brief outline of how the model works for those that are interested.
Player Level Predictions
Due to the nature of the model, we calculate a “score” for each player, for each game. This can be inferred as the players contribution to their teams chance to win. the higher the score, the more the player is expected to contribute.
Due to the complexity of the model, this goes far beyond what we might expect in terms of what a winning player looks like. It does not all come down to goals and assists. This greatly assists the accuracy of the model, as if a star player is missing a game, their contributions will not be considered.
Research is still being done into how these scores can be leveraged consistently to bet at the player level. Updates will continue to come throughout the season, but the goal is to introduce a system that can leverage these scores to help create player prop bets.
The Season Plan
As a result of the structure of the model, its full potential is not reached until each team has played 10 games. In the NHL, it generally takes around a month for this to occur, which is one of the reasons why the first 2 weeks will be for tuning the model, and the following month or so will be free.
Some predictions may be sent out before each team has played 10 games, and we will continually outline, we do not necessarily recommend using a large bankroll during this period. Each of the individual model’s has a similar accuracy on their own, but the predictions become safer when the 5 models are averaged.
It may be a good idea to simply use this time to watch how the model performs, how the bets would do and then go from there. I will personally start betting when each team has played 3 games, as this leverages 3 of the 5 high-level models. (By the time the 2 week tuning period is up, we will be past this point. The final 2 weeks of the trial period will be with the full model potential).
Subscription Tiers
After the initial month or so (& once the model is operating in full capacity), all the daily picks & bets will no longer be free. What you will have access to will depend on your tier.
Free Tier
If you decide to not pay, you will still have access to some of the features from the first month.
Free tier subscribers will get:
0-3 free picks per day
Depending on the amount of games, some of the predictions will still be shared with the free members.
However, bet amounts will not be provided.
Also worth keeping in mind is the fact that to really take advantage of the model, it is advised to bet on every game. Selectively betting (or just betting on the picks provided) will not result in the same success as fully following the model

Also included is a running total of the models accuracy and the amount won over the course of the season
Paid Tier
The paid tier will be introduced, and required to access picks sometime in mid November.
Paid tier subscribers will get:
The full slate of predictions every day
The predicted win chance / predicted winner will be provided for each game
The recommended bet amount (according to our algorithm) is also provided. All you must do is simply place the bets as provided, which should only take a few minutes.
The daily report of how the model & bets have been doing will of course also be provided to paid members
